Roy was born in Nottingham where cobbled streets were the norm. His first dip into art was drawing and painting alongside his lorry driver father. His artistic ability was acknowledged at school exhibitions and his first paintings sold. This is where his fascination with all forms of nature began and moving from the town to the country opened up a whole new world.
Roy’s first medium was pencil and watercolours, extending into pen and ink, oil acrylic and then enamels. After school, he became an apprentice painter and decorator which fostered skills in colour and finishes. A flair for sign writing developed which eventually became a main source of income.
A career began in painting pictorial signs for the brewing industry, but Roy’s love of nature and animals was still able to flourish through commissions. The demand for pub signage dropped off and he diversified again into painting murals for hotels, play areas, private houses and care homes.
Throughout this period, Roy has advanced his skills into a defined style. Recently he has decided to take his painting further with the development of Frank
